Read-Nest | Dorte Mandrup
Ever dreamed of a snug space where you can escape from reality and read your favourite novel for an hour or two? Well this wonderful space, designed by Danish architects Dorte Mandrup fits the bill perfectly!
Known as the 'Read-Nest', this is a small prefab box, which is designed as a separate annex o a private holiday home in North Zealand, in the west of Denmark. At only 10 square metres, this is a tiny standalone space, but the unique nature of the design really makes the Read-Nest stand out.
It is a movable space, and so can be transported to other locations, offering flexibility for the owner. The space is designed to be flexible for its use as well - whether that be study or relaxation.
It is certainly a minimalist design - with only one door, one window, one roof light, one bed, one shelf, one table: but then what more do you really need for a place to escape from modern life's stresses and strains?!
The exterior of the cabin is made from clad in vertically striated natural oiled wood, and designed so as to be sympathetic to and in tune with natural surroundings. The large window floods the room with natural light, but a balance is maintained in terms of ensuring privacy for the occupant. What a wonderful space, and a great example of an innovative, stylish and yet effortlessly simple and natural approach to creating a homely environment.
