The Finnish outdoors with Maarit Vaahteranoksa
Maarit Vaahteranoksa is Finnish photographer, and also a true adventurer and outdoor lover! Here she has shared with us some of her wonderful photographs of Nordic nature at its finest.
“I live in the southern Finnish city of Espoo, along with my husband and a beautiful dog - a Finnish Lapphund. My childhood home was in Lohja, in the Finnish countryside. I am a farm girl at heart, so my childhood was full of warm atmosphere, animals and easy going happy life in a small village. I think all that is the basis for my interests in a simple life and the outdoors.”
“I love peaceful time in the forest and being able to concentrate on taking in the surroundings. I have always been interested in visual things. I love to combine colours and materials in a harmonious way, and I try to translate that into my photography. I got my first SLR camera about 12-years ago. First, I just photographed everything. Nowadays, I work as a professional photographer and shoot models, products, families and children. But I like to see myself as a lifestyle and outdoor photographer. My mum has taught me to spend time in forest and see the beauty of nature. First, I just took my camera with me while I was hiking and spending time in forest. Then I learnt to see all that beauty that nature can offer. I learnt to see the light, and now I think that the light is the most important thing when photographing nature. I love morning and evening light - which shows the very best of nature.”
“I really recommend to budding photographers to get out to see the sunrise and sunset. I promise it will not let you down - this is when some of the most atmospheric and beautiful moments are created. I love to try to use this to create a special mood in my photos. Autumn season is often the best for capturing true atmosphere - the colours and light can create very evocative moments.”
