Jenny - Storyteller of calm and peaceful moments
My name is Jenny Jolkkonen. I live in the beautiful city of Helsinki, Finland. I see myself as a storyteller. I tell stories through an art of many kinds since I am a photographer, blogger and an architecture student.
My blog and Instagram account, Nordic Stories, is all about slow and intentional living by enjoying the little things in life. I emphasize the Nordic way to live and see things around us. Nordic Stories got started with a passion for capturing moments with my camera and a desire to share these moments with other people. Instagram has been my main platform throughout these years. This spring I started blogging because I wanted to share more written stories and not only pictures. At the moment my blog is in Finnish but I have a dream to start writing it in English as well.
Typical Nordic life to me is to enjoy the present moment. It includes walks in the forest, homemade food and long talks over a cup of tea with my husband. Nordic life is to make things by myself such as knitting sweaters, baking homemade bread or make my own ceramics.
My typical day start always with a good breakfast. Usually I have a slice of homemade bread and a bowl of yoghurt topped with seasonal fruits and berries. My summertime favourite is self-picked forest blueberries. After breakfast I walk through the city to my work or drive my bike through the forest to the school depending on the day. Both school and work are for creating architecture. When I get back to home I start to photograph beautiful pictures inside the building which some architect has once designed. I find it very inspiring to capture the moments of real life in the real home. In the evenings I also cook the dinner, knit or meet my friends.
My ideal day includes a long breakfast, walk in the woods and photographing, styling and editing pictures. I also love to write and draw, so it would definitely have some of those activities too.
I relax when I knit, do ceramics and photograph. I also love to walk or run in the nature. Also baking is a good way to relax for me. Especially enjoyable is the eating part when you get to taste all the sweet things you have created.
In Finland we have thousands of lakes and plenty of forest to explore. Something I would definitely recommend to try. There is no better way to have an afternoon walk than doing it in the forest. Have a cup of hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll while listening the birds and enjoying the beautiful scenery over the lake or sea. If you wish to see very exotic nature head up to north and explore the beautiful Lapland. I also must mention Helsinki, since this is my favourite city in Finland. You can find so many beautiful streets from here, cute little cafes and quiet parks. You are able to go to a sauna in the heart of the city and swim in the ocean. In Helsinki we also have gorgeous architecture, which is definitely worth to see.
