Photographing Finnish nature with Sannamari
Nordique this week has met with Finnish photographer Sannamari Sallmén, whose incredible pictures of Finnish nature we find truly inspiring! Sannamari has also shared with us some of her incredible pictures, which we have included below - stunning!
“My name is Sannamari Sallmén, I’m 27 years old and work as a part-time photo editor. I'm originally from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. I also lived for a couple of years in Stockholm but moved back to Helsinki about five years ago.
I've loved taking pictures ever since I was a child but I would say that I really got into photography about 10 years ago when I got my first DSLR camera. Initially I was taking pictures of pretty much anything but at some point I realised that I mostly enjoy photographing nature - especially birds and other animals. I think my interest in natural photography started partly because of my dad who has always been an enthusiastic bird photographer. Also, I’ve always loved animals and spending time out in the wild and photography is always a great opportunity to take a little walk in the woods. Although photographing wild animals can be very challenging and frustrating at times it's also very rewarding when you finally manage to capture the shot you want.
When photographing nature and landscapes my main goal is usually capturing a moment or some kind of mood into my photographs. I do love to take dark, atmospheric pictures. For that reason I love photographing especially during autumn and winter when the nature in Finland looks so peaceful and eerie but so beautiful at the same time.
