Six coffee shops not to miss in Helsinki!
The Finns certainly do love their coffee. In fact, they drink more coffee per head than any other country on the planet! At 12kg per person per year, they are way ahead of any nation, with Norway trailing in second at 9.9kg. Finland was also this year rated as the World's happiest country according to the UN's happiness index... coincidence? We think not!
So the Finns clearly know a thing or two about coffee, and here at Nordique we thought we would combine that with our love of 'fika' by showcasing some of the best coffee houses in Finland's lovely capital, Helsinki.
1. Cafe Regatta
Cafe Regatta is a beautiful little red hut by the sea, located in the Töölö district to the north west of Helsinki's city centre. In the summer time, locals congregate on the open terrace, while in winter this is the perfect spot to grill sausages on the open fire. Originally built as a fisherman's hut in 1887, it has been used as a cafe since 1952 and remains a local institution that is popular for first dates! The cafe is famous for its quite legendary cinnamon buns - delicious!
Address: Merikannontie 8, Töölö, Helsinki
2. Johan & Nyström
This trendy spot in the Katajanokka District features double-height exposed brickwork, and an obsession with the quality of their beans and roasting - very hipster! Originally a Swedish group, this is the flagship Helsinki store. They ethically source their coffee beans through a direct trade model with farmers - ensuring through close cooperation with producers that not only is the product of the highest quality, but farmers are paid properly for their work.
Address: Kanavaranta 7 C, 00160 Helsinki
3.Good Life Coffee
'Kahvia' means 'coffee' in Finnish, and this lovely spot in the up and coming Kallio District certainly focuses on the important things in life. They take a bold, modern, no-nonsense approach to roasting and brewing, and sell their full-bodied, rich product in their cafe. They also sell their beans and ground coffee from the cafe to take home after your visit!

4. Kahvila Siili
This cute summer cafe is set in a wooden lodge in the historic Käpylä district. It's the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon 'fika' with friends in a cozy environment. With coffee from the famous Square Mile roastery in London, and a beautiful woodland setting, this is a perfect place to visit on your trip to Helsinki.
