Arctic Tree House Hotel | Studio Puisto
The Arctic Tree House Hotel is located in Rovaniemi, Finland. Designed by Finnish architecture practice Studio Puisto, the hotel utilises natural materials and a beautiful wooded setting for spectacular results!
Perched on partial stilts on the wooded hillside are the rooms, each set at an angle to allow uninterrupted woodland views. Huge panoramic windows allow in plenty of light, while use of natural materials and Scandinavian design give the hotel a contemporary feel.
In order to avoid unnecessary damage to the precious arctic wildlife, the units were each constructed offsite, including all interior designs and fittings. The units were then carefully slotted in place directly from the back of the delivery lorry.
One of the key concepts behind the design is the contrast between the surrounding wild nature and the 'nest-like' cosiness of the rooms. The soft, warm materials in each room develop and build on this feeling.
The green roofs of the units help to prevent too much 'urban run-off' - problems linked to flooding and erosion when rain cannot soak into the soil due to building developments. They also assist with camouflaging the units in the surrounding woodland, increasing the unity between the development and the natural environment.
Neutral colours, natural fabrics and sleek design create an unmistakably Scandinavian interior to the rooms.
The arctic location of the tree house hotel means that spotting the Northern Lights is a real possibility in winter. What an amazing experience
