Kate's Hygge Home!
Nordique is delighted this week to feature one of our favourite instagram interior design accounts: "Kate's Hygge Home“. Kate was born and raised in Berlin but has strong links with the Nordic countries, and would regularly visit Denmark, Sweden and Norway for family vacations.
We spoke to Kate about the influences behind her love for interior design:
"After I studied fashion design I decided to move to Denmark and live in Copenhagen. The budget was tight and so I went to flea markets to shop for items to make a cosy home. I have to say though that the homes of my Danish friends were a huge inspiration! The white floors in my friends’ apartments were a dream!"
Back in Berlin, Kate and her boyfriend have set about designing a stunning apartment, taking inspiration from her Scandi experiences. "What I love most about my home is that it is on the first floor, which means that it is very bright and also we have pretty high ceilings and lovely stucco.
The apartment was completely renovated but still has the charm and feeling of this old building. Also the floor in the living room is gorgeous and very typical for Berlin."
"In terms of specific items, my favourite piece in the living room is the Gubi lamp, a design classic. It was the gift from my family for my 30th birthday and I Iove it so much!"
We asked Kate for her top tips for how to create a hygge home:
"Well, for me clean and neutral tones are important. I don't like colours so much: monochromes tend to work best - black, white, grey and wooden shades are perfect in my view. However, it is super important that it is still cosy - it can't become too clinical."
"A lot of textiles and wooden materials create a nice feeling. Also plants, books and candles makes me feel at home. In my opinion it is best to choose one colour theme for you living accessories.
In addition the right light is important, I prefer a lot of smaller lights and not only one big one."
