A Summer Retreat
This stunning country retreat in rural southern Sweden showcases some of the very best of Nordic interior design. Architect John Pawson has based the design on the original footprints from a existing farm house on the site, but the incredible, minimalistic design creates a thoroughly modern vacation house.
From the outside, the house retains inspiration from the original building, with pitched roofs of corrugated zinc, white rendered walls and timber elements stained with traditional Falun black paint. The cobbled courtyard is also a nod to the previous architectural use of the building, although now it is a serene and peaceful spot that is accessed from the separate wings of the property.
The interior has also been kept in a minimalistic style with polished concrete floor, white walls and white ceilings. The space is light and airy, merging the surrounding landscape with the main features of the house.
The interior furniture features the Wishbone Chair - iconic Danish dining chairs originally designed by Hans J Wegner.
The open plan design and floor to ceiling windows flood the interiors with natural light and with views out to the agricultural landscape and inwards across the courtyard. It is this seamless mix between the modern, contemporary design and the beautiful natural rural setting which really sets this home apart.
