The Black House B&B in Borganes
The wild, unspoilt, rugged scenery of Iceland's west coast is the dramatic setting for this beautiful bed and breakfast. Designed like the 18th century fishing cottages that are characteristic of the region, The Black House is made entirely from timber and is painted in a deep black pitch to withstand the elements, and to fit seamlessly into the hauntingly beautiful environment.
Inside, the decor is traditional - with wood panelled walls and deep solid colours - but with stylish modern finishes. The open plan living space, and large windows that flood the room with light, show the Scandinavian influences. This is complemented by the neutral tones and distressed look of the bold leather sofa, large wooden dining table and geometric-design Oriental rug.
The loft bedroom is super cosy, with deep tones and a wood store for the real-wood fire on those cold winter nights. We love the feature pieces such as the Nordic-inspired armchair, and the beautiful glass ceiling light.
The mismatched Andalucian tiles in neutral tones, when coupled with the wooden panelling and free-standing bath, give a country chic look to this spacious bathroom. The dark wall tiles are offset beautifully by the large free-standing mirror, which provides a real feature for the room.
