Iceland is a country with magical landscapes and hidden gems. Grjótagjá, a small lava cave near lake Mývatn is no exception. With a thermal spring inside this is a unique and wonderful place to visit. The spring used the be a popular bathing site until the 1970's - but due to the eruptions at 1975 to 1984 the water rose to over 50 °C (122 °F). The temperature is now slowly decreasing and has fallen below 50 °C again...It is forbidden to bathe here but who knows what the feature holds! Either way, this beautiful place is still worth to visit if you are planning a longer trip to this stunning country.
Grjótagjá was used as a location for filming the fifth episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, called "Kissed by Fire" - How cool is that!? You can understand why though, it is just simply magical.
