Malmö open-air bath
When thinking of Sweden, many of us picture snow, skiing and a general winter wonderland. But Sweden also has some great summers, beautiful white sandy beaches and even volleyball tournaments!
In the city of Malmö, located in the south of Sweden, you’ll find one of their most popular beaches, “Ribersborgs stranden”, also called “Ribban”. The beach is located only a few kilometers from central Malmö and has a lovely beach bar, small cafés, basketball and volleyball courts and also is the host to various music events.
And as you might know, for a lot of Swedes, no season is too cold to avoid the sea! Therefore, “Ribban” is also known for their all year around nudist open-air bath, in Swedish called “Ribersborgs Kallbadhus” or “Kallis”.
It was built in the late 18th century and in the 1930s rebuilt and modernised with walls dividing males and females. From the beach you walk onto a wooden bride, which takes you a few minutes out at sea to the historic building, where you also can enjoy a great lunch or a “fika”, tea/coffee and cake.
Each side has their own saunas and baths, and you can jump right into the sea without being seen from the other side. Visiting in wintertime? No worries, if the sea is frozen they will make sure there is a hole chopped up in the ice so you still can jump in for your annual dip! Oh the health benefits..
