Celebrate Swedish Waffle Day!
Saturday the 25th of March is waffle day in Sweden. Why not join in the fun with the tasty recipe below for some crispy waffles a la Scandi-style!
Makes 7-8 waffles
You need a heart-waffle iron to make these, which can easily bought online if you don't happen to already have one. If you use a different type of waffle iron, baking times and yield may vary.
- 150g butter, melted
- 300g plain flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 250ml whole milk
- 250ml water
- Turn on the waffle iron to heat up.
- Mix all the ingredients together to a smooth batter.
- Brush the waffle iron with a little bit of butter then add a ladle full of batter. Leave to cook until golden brown and crispy. Serve with whipped cream and jam or fresh berries for the traditional Swedish toppings. And of course it must be accompanied with a cup of coffee as you would always do in Sweden.
