Miss Universe Iceland
We’ve been chatting with model and part time flight assistant Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir from Reykjavik who became Miss Iceland 2011-13 and 1st runner up in Miss Universe Iceland 2016. Below she tells us a bit about her experience.
You're the 1st runner up at Miss Universe Iceland 2016, congratulations! Can you please tell us a bit about the contest and your experience?
Actually it all started back in 2011 when I won Miss Iceland and got the opportunity to travel around the world where I competed in Miss World amongst other competitions, that’s when I sort of got to know the pageant scenery.
Miss Universe Iceland had its first competition this year and I got a message from one of the directors if I was interested in participating. I have always wanted to compete in Miss Universe since IMG took over so I of course grabbed the offer. The preparation for the competition was so much fun and it was a privilege to get to know all of the girls and the amazing people behind the scenes.
How has the win affected you?
I feel so much more confident in myself now that I have answered questions on a stage in front of a room full of people and really speaking my mind, feeling absolutely confidently beautiful!
I also feel like It definitely put me on the map. Now with social media being so much bigger than it was, it’s so much easier to connect to people. I’ve been getting offers and modeling jobs from abroad which I didn’t get before.
Is the fashion and beauty industry big in Iceland?
I feel like Iceland has always been very big on fashion but I can definitely see the beauty industry growing bigger and bigger now just over these past few months.
If you had a magic wand, what is the one thing you would ask for, and why?
To be able to teleport, so I could visit my grandpa in France and of course sunbathe on a tropical island whenever I wanted to.
What are your future plans?
Right now I plan on going to college to study medical engineering but the rest I haven’t decided on yet!
What would be your absolute dream job?
Scientist and a Victoria’s secret model.
What is your favorite thing to do in Iceland?
Going to my parents’ summerhouse up in the highlands during winter.
And your favorite thing about Iceland?
The untouched nature and vast wilderness.
How would you describe the typical Icelandic person?
Quirky over spenders.
Do you have a local hangout?
A place called Café Paris where I go with my friends to eat a large nachos and gossip.
